Hoverbox Gallery Viewers
I combined :focus and :hover behaviors to produce these compact image viewers. I used pure CSS to control button and image behavior. I have finally resolved all the behavior problems with the viewers. The last step involved assigning z-index settings to allow the :hover elements to float above the :focus and :active elements. The results are pleasing, but I'm not completely convinced the end result is materially better than a mundane HTML scrolling gallery.
